Moral criticism of art in the concept of Noël Carroll and Berys Gaut

In this thesis I focus on the moral criticism of art in the conception of two american aestheticians, who came to the conclusion that it is a legitimate approach in the evaluation of art. Namely, I address the conception of Noël Carroll and his concept of moderate moralism and the conception of Berys Gaut and his concept of ethicism. I present these against the background of other approaches with which it is possible to evaluate a work of art. Moral criticism is explained through the relation of aesthetic and moral values, and the relationship of art and its reception. The work focuses on the views of Carroll and Gaut on cognitive gain from art and how it is connected with considerations of morality.

Moral Responsibility of Art

In my work I survey the debate about the legitimacy of moral criticism of art, which has developed in the 1990s in the field of analytic aesthetics. In three sections, I examine three basic positions in the debate - autonomism, moralism and immoralism - which, each in its own way, answer the basic question that motivates the whole debate, namely: what is the influence of the moral value of the work on its aesthetic or artistic value. I point out that the concepts of aesthetic and artistic values are not properly defined, which is the reason why the proponents of the various positions not only cannot come to an agreement, but they also cannot agree on the point of their disagreement.

Aesthetics of Virginia Woolf

This thesis is dealing with characteristics of Virginia Woolf's aesthetic views which progresses according to the then aesthetic teories. It introduces significant differences between the Victorian and the following Modern period which influenced all areas of human activities. The thesis discusses step by step development of human thinking and its reflexions into production and experience of art. Besides that, the thesis analyses art activities of Bloomsbury group, its philosophy and aesthetics. It includes main aesthetic thoughts of Mr. Roger Frye and Mr. Clive Bell who were part of the group and created its aesthetic views. Biopower and autonomism

Martin Poppr : Biopower and autonomism (abstract of bachelor thesis) The main subject of the thesis is the relationship between an individual and the society. My goal is to find out the origin of the social authority, society cares, and the society control. My work will as well question the relationship between the knowledge and the power, and if both of them are in some way relied to the violence. My work will be based in the philosophy of Michel Foucault, his archeology of knowledge and his studies of the society. I will try to find out how is the knowledge defined by its own discourse. The discourse is a special form of a social power. I will focus my work on the question, how is every human being influenced by the social power and the power of discourse. I will also stay focused on the topic reading few more authors. I will follow Gilles Deleuze developing Foucault's concept of "bio-power", leading us from the age of "Enlightenment" to the present. Foucault himself finds as a good way, how to study the power, to study the forms of the political resistance. That is why I will also focus my attention on the philosophy of "autonomism".
